OPEN SPACE COMMITTEE
Formation: Resolved by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Nockamixon pursuant to Resolution March 17, 2004. A minimum of 10 and no more than 15 voting, volunteer members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors to 3-year terms. Members must be taxpayers of Nockamixon Township.
Meeting Dates: The Open Space Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Township Building. The public is welcome.
Purpose: The Open Space Committee seeks to preserve important lands for agriculture and parks and to protect natural resources. Over 2,465 acres of land have been preserved in Nockamixon Township to date, including Municipal and County Parks, preserved farmland, and open space easements, accounting for approximately 15% of the total 14,464 acres of Township land. Land may be conserved through easement donations, which can provide property owners with substantial Federal tax benefits. The Township can also purchase conservation easements depending on available funding. (Please see the link below for additional information on land conservation opportunities and application.)
In addition, the committee reviews major subdivision and/or land development plans in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Board and advises the Township with regards to accepting dedication of the proposed open space and possible uses as part of the subdivision and/or land development plan.
